Admiral William Stokes Rees, C.B., Royal Navy, Retired (20 January, 1853 – 20 July, 1929) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Rees was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 28 October, 1877.[1]
He was appointed to the Undaunted on 18 February, 1890.[2]
Rees was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1891.[3]
Captain
For his services in Benin, Rees was specially promoted to the rank of Captain on 25 May, 1897.[4]
In September 1901, Rees assumed command of the first class protected cruiser Amphitrite.[5]
He was appointed in command of the battleship Hood on 25 June, 1903.[Citation needed]
Flag Rank
Rees was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral dated 16 February, 1907, vice Bridgeman.[6]
Retirement
In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 22 June, 1909.[7] On 19 May, 1912, he was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List.[8] He was promoted to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 24 October, 1915.[9]
