Britain bought the ship Pioneer in November of 1900, converted her to a gunboat, renaming her H.M.S. Kinsha for service on the China Station.
Design
The ship were as follows:[5]
- 616 tons
- 192 feet overall (180 between perpendiculars)
- 6.5 foot draught
- 30 foot beam
- 14 knots on 1200 I.H.P.
Armament
- two 12-pdrs
Service
Re-commissioned at Woosung on 19 March, 1910.[6]

- Lieutenant & Commander Percy Crabtree, 8 February, 1906 – 9 October, 1907 (died in command)
- Lieutenant & Commander Hugh D. Marryat, 27 October, 1911[7] – 5 August, 1914
