Admiral SIR Henry Fairfax, K.C.B., C.B. (Civil), D.L., J.P., F.R.G.S., Royal Navy (21 January, 1837 – 20 March, 1900) was an officer of the Royal Navy in the latter half of the 19th Century.

Early Life & Career

Fairfax was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 25 August, 1858.[1]

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 4 November, 1862.[2]

Fairfax was promoted to the rank of Captain on 3 April, 1868.[3]

Fairfax was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, of the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 22 July, 1879.[4]

For his participation at the Bombardment of Alexandria, Fairfax was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Order of the Bath on 14 August, 1882.[5]

Flag Rank

Fairfax was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 July, 1885, vice Salmon.[6] He was appointed Commander-in-Chief on the Australian Station on 1 February, 1887, assuming command on 18 April.[7]

He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 20 June, 1891, vice Hoskins.[8]

On the occasion of the Queen's birthday he was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Second Class, or Knight Commander, in the Military Division of the Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) on 20 May, 1896.[9]

Fairfax was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 10 May, 1897, vice D'Arcy-Irvine.[10]
