Admiral Francis Alban Arthur Giffard Tate, Royal Navy, Retired (7 June, 1853 – 4 January, 1930) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Tate was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 27 October, 1877.[1]

Tate was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1891.[2]

Captain

Tate was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1897.[3]

He was appointed as captain of the battleship Hannibal on 1 October, 1903,[4] and then of the Hindustan on 12 July, 1905.[5]

Flag Rank

Tate was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 July, 1907.[6]

Tate was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 30 July, 1912, vice Neville. In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List on the 31st at his own request.[7] He was promoted to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 9 June, 1916.[8]
