Captain Richard Stratford Lovatt, (31 July, 1898 – 24 November, 1941) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of H. W. Lovatt, the Director of a company. Lovatt would serve in Venus from 2 August 1914 through 1 June, 1915 when he was appointed to the battlecruiser New Zealand. He fought in her at the Battle of Jutland and remained with her until being appointed to the patrol boat P20 on 27 July, 1917.[1]
Lovatt was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 September, 1919.[2]
Lovatt was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 September, 1927.[3]
Lovatt was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1932.[4]
In 1936 he was lent to the Greek government for two years. On 5 Sedptember 1938 he was appointed to Rodney as executive officer, vice Andrews.[5]
World War II
Lovatt was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1940.[6]
He was killed in command of the light cruiser Dunedin.[7]
