Vice-Admiral (retired) Malcolm Lennon Goldsmith, K.B.E., D.S.O. (22 August, 1880 – 8 October, 1955) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Goldsmith was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1902.[1]
Goldsmith, alongside several other Lieutenants, was temporarily appointed additional to the armoured cruiser Sutlej for duty with a Record Party under the auspices of the Inspector of Target Practice, on 3 August, 1910.[2]
Goldsmith was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1910.[3] Goldsmith was appointed to the battleship Triumph when she recommissioned on 12 January, 1911.[4]
Goldsmith was appointed in command of the destroyer Vixen on 15 June, 1912.[5]
He was appointed in command of the destroyer Laertes on 16 October, 1913.[6]
Goldsmith was promoted to the rank of Commander on 21 October, 1914.[7]
Goldsmith commanded the destroyer Lydiard at the Battle of Jutland.[8]
After being discharged from command of Shakespeare on 8 June, 1918, Goldsmith was appointed to Arrogant additional for duty with Commodore, Dunkirk. On 21 August, he'd be appointed to bring flotilla leader Montrose into commission and to command her.[9]

Post-War
Goldsmith was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1919.[11]
He was appointed in command of the flotilla leader Abdiel on 8 August, 1920.[12]
Goldsmith was appointed in command of the light cruiser Conquest in March, 1921, and of the light cruiser Cambrian in August, 1922.
Goldsmith was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 7 October, 1931 and placed on the Retired List the following day.[13]
Goldsmith was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 2 January, 1936.[14]
World War II
On 4 September, 1939, he was activated and appointed to Cormorant as Commodore, Second Class, R.N.R., for Convoys. At the end of October, he was shifted to Eaglet II for the Liverpool Convoy Pool.[15]
He was gazetted and mentioned in despatches for "outstanding devotion to duty during three years arduous service as Cdre of Ocean Convoys" on 1 January, 1943. On 26 December, 1953, he was admitted to hospital in Malta for pneumonia.[16]
