Lieutenant-Commander Geoffrey Bransby O'Brien Harding, (30 April, 1899 – 31 January, 1942) served in the Royal Navy in both world wars, fighting at Jutland and dying in a lend-lease destroyer in early 1942.

Life & Career

The son of Dr. C. O'B. Harding.

Harding passed out of the Training Establishment in August 1914 and was appointed to the first class protected cruiser Amphitrite. He remained in her until being invalided in November 1914. On 1 February 1915, he was appointed to the new battlecruiser Tiger.

Harding fought in Tiger at the Battle of Jutland, not leaving the ship before being appointed to attend a course in Torpedo Control in October 1917. He would serve in the destroyers Mosquito for five months and Osiris for nine before the war ended.[1]

Harding was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1920.[2]

Harding was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 January, 1928.[3]

World War II

Harding was killed when his command, Belmont was torpedoed and lost to U-82.[4]
