H.M.S. Nelson was one of two Nelson Class armoured cruisers completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

Nelson re-commissioned at Sydney on 15 January, 1885.[6]

In February, 1888, she was flagship on the Australia Station, bearing the Commander-in-Chief, Rear-Admiral Henry Fairfax.[7]

Nelson was made guardship at Portsmouth in October, 1891. She was placed in Fleet Reserve in November, 1894.

She arrived at Gibraltar from Palermo in early July, 1896, destined to leave for Portsmouth on the 6th.[8]
