H.M.A.S. Hobart was one of three Perth Class light cruisers, and one of two completed for the Royal Navy. She began service in the Royal Navy as H.M.S. Apollo, but transferred to the Royal Australian Navy in 1938 and took on her Australian designation.
Service
In 1938, her Apollo bells, no longer needed in her Australian guise, were two of a number ships' bells the Royal Navy offered for sale to officers and others interested. The larger commanded a price of between £10 and the smaller £5, plus packing and shipping. Interested parties were to apply to win one at its stated price, stating any special attachment or claim they had to the item(s) applied for.[5]
