Admiral SIR Cecil Halliday Jepson Harcourt, G.B.E., K.C.B., R.N. (11 April, 1892 – 19 December, 1959) served in the Royal Navy.

In April 1913, he altered his last name to Harcourt Morris. In May 1920, he altered it back to Harcourt.

Life & Career

Harcourt Morris was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1913.[1]

Post-War

Harcourt was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1921.[2]

Harcourt was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1926. When he was superseded in command of Vidette in January 1927, he spent six weeks on unpaid hiatus and was then sent to a month-long minesweeping course at Vernon. From mid-March he was lent ("as convenient") to the minesweeper Leamington and appointed for two years to the Admiralty Operation Division, vice Morgan.[3]

In mid-May 1929 he was appointed to the heavy cruiser Shropshire to assist in her completion, to serve in her upon her commissioning for service. He left the ship in mid-June, 1931. Captain R. W. Harcourt was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1933.[5]

In 1935, Harcourt was nominated to succeed Austen Gerald Lilley for loan to the Royal Australian Navy.[6]

Harcourt was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 28 July, 1942.[7]

Harcourt was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 February, 1946.[8]

Harcourt was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 22 June, 1949.[9]
