Captain William Martin Annesley, R.N., Retired (16 February, 1846 – 10 April, 1899) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Annesley entere the Royal Navy on 13 September, 1859.
Annesley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 18 April, 1868.
He commanded H.M.S. Vigilant from 1 January 1878 until June, 1881.[1]
Annesley was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1882.
On 18 May 1883, he was informed that Banterer's collision with a tug in Galway Dock was due to insufficient care on his part to see that the dock entrance was clear in the face of a strong current.[2]
In October 1889 he was involved in grounding Icarus off Edith Point, British Columbia.
On 28 May 1890, a Court Martial resulted in a reprimand for Annesley for having ordered an inappropriate punishment for a minor offence.
On 11 November 1892 he was appointed to the Coast Guard at Valentia, but this was cancelled and he was admitted to hospital for two weeks, diagnosed with incipient paralysis.
He was again admitted to Yarmouth Hospital, suffering from general paralysis on 2 June, 1893.
