On 28 May 1890, a Court Martial resulted in a reprimand for Annesley for having ordered an inappropriate punishment for a minor offence.

He was again admitted to Yarmouth Hospital, suffering from general paralysis on 2 June, 1893.
Annesley was placed on the Retired List due to non-service at the rank of Captain on 30 May, 1895.
