Admiral SIR Aubrey Clare Hugh Smith, K.B.E., C.B., D.L., K.C.V.O. (22 September, 1872 – 6 October, 1957) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Aubrey was born in London.

Smith was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 14 April, 1892.[1]

Smith was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1903.[2]

Smith was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1910.[3]

He was appointed command of the armoured cruiser Cumberland on 1 May, 1912.[4]

He was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Drake in July 1914.[5]

As Commodore, Second Class, Smith hoisted his broad pendant in Newcastle at noon on 31 December, 1917 as Commodore, East Coast of South America.[6]

Post-War

He was appointed in command of battleship H.M.S. Ramillies on 7 May 1920.[7]

After serving on a committee considering issues of Polish war material passing through Danzig, Smith was appointed as Naval Representative on the League of Nations on 14 October, 1923.

Smith was placed on Retired List on 7 July, 1926 in accordance with Order in Council of 9 March, 1914. He was superseded at the League of Nations on 30 September, 1927.[8]
