Vice-Admiral Francis John Foley, Royal Navy (2 December, 1855 – 5 March, 1911) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
He was appointed to the sloop Basilisk on 12 August, 1893.[1]
Foley was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1895.[2]
In March 1901, he assumed command of the convoy sloop Andromeda.[3]
Foley next served as captain of Illustrious from March 1902 through July 1903.[4]
He was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King Edward VII on 24 May, 1905, vice Chisholm-Batten.[5]
He was captain of the New Zealand from January to July of 1906.[6]

Foley was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 July, 1906.[7]
He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 3 January, 1911, vice Graham.[8]
His only son, Lieutenant Thomas Algernon Fitzgerald Foley of the 1st Battalion Norfolk Regiment, was killed in action on 25 October, 1914.[9]
