The Mobilisation Department at the Admiralty was founded as the Mobilisation Division of the new Admiralty War Staff in 1912. In 1917 the War Staff became the Naval Staff, and in 1918 was removed from the staff and became the Mobilisation Department under the Second Sea Lord.
History
The Naval Mobilisation Department became the Mobilisation Division of the Admiralty War Staff on 8 January, 1912.
According to Dr. Nicholas Black, twenty-two Royal Navy officers served in the division during the Great War.[1]
On 12 February, 1918, the Division was separated from what had become the Naval Staff in 1917, and became a department of the Admiralty under the superintendence of the Second Sea Lord.[2]
In the late 1920s, the office was renamed Manning Department.
