Captain Claude Alwin Rombulow-Pearse, C.B.E., R.N. (10 May, 1875 – 6 August, 1931) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Little Parndon, Essex.
Rombulow-Pearse was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1897.
On 14 January, 1904, Rombulow-Pearse was appointed in command of the destroyer Skate. She soon collided with Vixen, and R-P was informed he was to blame for having used too much helm. R-P was commended for the way he handled Sturgeon in rescuing the crew of Decoy when she had collided with Arun during the Annual Manoeuvres of 1904.
R-P was appointed in command of the "D" Class destroyer Desperate from 7 November 1905 through 29 September, 1908. In June of 1906, he collided with Banshee, and was informed that he was to blame, having not slackened speed at the judicious point. On 28 October 1906, his Captain (D) wrote that "Desperate is one of the cleanest T.B.Ds. I have ever inspected."
Rombulow-Pearse was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1909. In late November, he was appointed to the predreadnought New Zealand as executive officer, where he remained until she paid off at the end of July, 1911.
Rombulow-Pearse was appointed in command of the armed boarding steamer Fauvette from 19 March 1915. In April, appointed by the Vice-Admiral to command the armed merchant cruiser Osiris, which would soon be renamed Osiris II.[1]
Rombulow-Pearse was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1917.
Rombulow-Pearse was appointed in command of the hired yacht Valhalla II from 13 March 1918 to 31 March, 1918, when he was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Europa.
Placed on the Retired List as medically unfit on 7 June, 1920.
