Vice-Admiral (retired) Harry Woodfall Brent, R.N. (19 August, 1834 – 27 February, 1911) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Brent was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 5 January, 1856. That same year, he would be engaged in revising the lighting arrangements of the fleet.[1]
He was appointed to H.M.S. Amphion on 4 December 1862. On 4 February 1862, he as made her acting Captain. On 14 March, little over a month later, he was to be superseded for lack of discipline aboard the ship. He was superseded on 30 March. The fairness of this seems a little suspect![2]
Brent was promoted to the rank of Commander on 5 July, 1866.[3]
During the span 1867-1870, Brent was commander in Bellerophon. In 1874, he was engaged in revising the torpedo books of the fleet.[4]
Brent was promoted to the rank of Captain on 27 April, 1875.[5]
Brent was placed on the Retired List on account of age on 19 August, 1889 and promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 5 August, 1890.[6]
Brent was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 9 November, 1896.[7]
