John Hext

Rear-Admiral (retired) John Hext, K.C.I.E., R.N. (14 October, 1842 – 8 May, 1924) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hext was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 16 June, 1865.

On 15 July, 1873, he was gazetted for having been in command of a boat at the attack at Elmina in the Ashanti War. On 18 November, he was again gazetted and specially mentioned for services at an attack at Ampire[?]. Astonishingly, he was gazetted a third time on 25 November.

Hext was promoted to the rank of Commander on 28 March, 1874.

Hext was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1882.

Hext was placed on the Retired List owing to non-service on 5 November, 1889 and was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 10 May, 1897.
