H.M.S. Amethyst was one of four third class cruisers of the "Gem" class completed in 1904 and 1905.

Service

The ship was launched on 5 November 1903 and christened by a Miss Cruddas.[8] Her turbine machinery was reportedly insured for £100,000.[9]

Recommissioned at Portsmouth on 7 May, 1907.[10]

Recommissioned at Portsmouth on 18 August, 1911.[11]

Arrived Sheerness, 8 September, 1913.[12]
