Re-commissioned at Chatham on 2 February, 1926 for service with the First Cruiser Squadron on the China Station.[8]

On 13 August 1934, Dragon collided with and sank the moored oil bunkering steamer, Maplebranch while navigating in the harbour of Montreal. Captain Wake-Walker was found liable for the accident in a civil hearing despite his protestations that he was manoeuvring to avoid a third vessel.[12]

In 1938, her bell was among a number of ships' bells the Royal Navy offered for sale to officers and others interested. It commanded a price of between £3-£10 plus packing and shipping. Interested parties were to apply to win one at its stated price, stating any special attachment or claim they had to the item(s) applied for.[14]
