Captain (emergency) THE HONOURABLE Cyril Augustus Ward, M.V.O., R.N. (31 January, 1876 – 11 January, 1930) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in London, his mother, the Countess of Dudley, was named as his guardian.
In March 1896, it was reported that he had been injured by a field gun.
Ward was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 August, 1897.
Ward was superseded in command of Porcupine and transferred to the Emergency List at his own request on 29 January, 1904.
Ward was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (emergency) on 31 August, 1905.
Ward was promoted to the rank of Commander (emergency) on 31 January, 1916.
Ward was in command of the destroyer Mischief of the Twelfth Destroyer Flotilla at the Battle of Jutland.[1]
Ward reverted to the Retired List on 22 March. In April he was promoted to the rank of Captain (emergency) in recognition of his wartime service, dated 11 November, 1918.
The London Gazette on 16 October 1923 had a Notice of a Receiving Order in Bankruptcy for Ward, dated 11 October.
