Admiral William Home Chisholme St. Clair, Royal Navy, Retired (9 September, 1841 – 16 November, 1905) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

St. Clair was promoted to Captain on 31 July, 1880. He was appointed in command of the store ship Assistance on 29 December, 1882 and remained in command until being superseded on 1 January, 1886.[1]

In the Annual Manoeuvres of 1890, St. Clair commanded the second class battleship Hero, part of Fleet 1 playing the role of the Royal Navy fending off attacks on British trade routes.[2]

St. Clair was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to Queen Victoria dated 1 January, 1893, vice Stewart.[3]

Upon giving up command of Sydney on 6 March, 1894, St. Clair boarded the P. & O. steamer Australia on 31 March to return to England, arriving there on 10 May. On 18 July, 1894, he was appointed to command Theseus in the annual manoeuvres.[4]

St. Clair was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral dated 19 January, 1896, vice St. John.[5]

St. Clair was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 16 June, 1901, vice Kennedy.[6] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 4 December, 1878, he was placed on the Retired List dated 9 September, 1901.[7]
