Vice-Admiral Harry Louis d'Estoteville Skipwith, C.M.G., Royal Navy, Retired (23 January, 1868 – 13 March, 1955) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Capain Grey Skipwith, R.N. and grandson of Sir Grey Skipwith, Bt., of Newbold Revel Warwickshire.
Skipwith scored 1,349 marks in the competitive examinations for cadetships in the Royal Navy, coming second out of his batch of twenty.[1]
He was promoted to the rank of Commander in 1903.
Skipwith was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1909 while captain of the torpedo training school H.M.S. Defiance.
He was appointed in command of the depot ship Blake on 12 August, 1912.[2]
Skipwith was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Carnarvon on 8 January, 1914[3] where he would act as flag captain to Rear-Admiral Arthur Henry Christian of Home Fleets, Devonport.[4]
Appointed Captain of H.M.S. Vernon on 16 September, 1915.[5]
Skipwith was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 12 October, 1920, and was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 March, 1926.[6]
