Rear-Admiral (retired) Herbert Arthur Walton Onslow, R.N. (8 October, 1851 – 4 December, 1906) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Onslow was ranked twenty-fourth in order of merit of thirty-six candidates accepted as first-class Naval Cadets following the entrance examinations of December, 1864.[1]

Onslow was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1875.

Onslow was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1888.

Onslow was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 January, 1894. On 15 February, he sent a telegram asking to return home by overland route on account of illness and received approval. He left sick quarters at Yokohama on 14 September 1894 and returned home on 17 October.[2]

Onslow was placed on the Retired List with the rank of Rear-Admiral on 5 July, 1905 in accordance with Order in Council of 22 February, 1870 and was not to be considered for further promotion.[3]
