Commander (retired) George Cecil Herbert Lawson, R.N. (26 September, 1886 – 18 May, 1939) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Woolwich, the son of Captain F. B. Lawson of the Royal Marines.
Lawson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 39 June, 1908. Lawson would serve in the battleship H.M.S. Africa from early 1909 through early 1911 before spending two years in the battlecruiser Indefatigable.
He then joined the scout cruiser Attentive, becoming her first officer as she led first the First Destroyer Flotilla and then the Sixth of the Dover Patrol after war broke out. He served in her until he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1916, leaving her in mid-July to take command of the elderly "C" Class destroyer Star. On 11 June 1917, he was appointed in command of the more modern destroyer Hornet.
Lawson was appointed in command of the destroyer Salmon on 24 June, 1918.[1]
Lawson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 November, 1926.
