Vice-Admiral SIR Edward Fitzhardinge Heaton-Ellis, K.B.E., C.B., M.V.O., Royal Navy, Retired (19 November, 1868 – 23 February, 1943) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

He was promoted to the rank of Commander dated 31 December, 1902.[1]

Heaton-Ellis was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) on 30 April, 1907.[2]

On 30 June, 1908, Heaton-Ellis was promoted to the rank of Captain.[3]

He was appointed to command the battleship Prince of Wales on 19 December, 1911.[4]

He was appointed command of the battleship King Edward VII on 17 May, 1912.[5]

Heaton-Ellis succeeded Captain Maurice FitzMaurice as Assistant Director of the Intelligence Division of the War Staff on 14 February, 1914.[6]

Great War

In recognition of his services during the war, on the occasion of the King's birthday Heaton-Ellis was appointed a Commander of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) on 3 June, 1919.[8] He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 4 October vice Silver.[9] He was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 2 December.[10] On 1 January, 1920, he was appointed a Knight Commander in the Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.).[11]

He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 18 January, 1925.[12]
