Captain (retired) Ernest Leigh Austen (16 December, 1858 – 3 September, 1939) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Austen was a descendant of Francis William Austen, one of Jane Austen's "sailor brothers".[1]

Austen was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1882.[2]

Austen was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 16 December, 1903.[3]

Austen was promoted to the rank of Captain for war services, dated 11 November, 1918.[4]
