Rear-Admiral Charles Frederick Harris, C.B., R.N. (2 January, 1887 – 2 March, 1957) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Bernard Francis Harris.

Harris was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 29 February, 1908.[1]

Harris was in the second class protected cruiser Highflyer when the war broke out, but then served in Conqueror from October 1914 to December, 1918, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 29 February, 1916.[2]

In 1920, a Court of Enquiry probed a mishap when Diomede broke away from her tugs. Harris was judged to have made an error in judgement under difficult circumstances.[3]

Harris was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1921.[4]

Harris was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1928.[5]

Harris was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 August, 1939.[6]

He died aged seventy at his home at Micheldever.
