Vice-Admiral Arthur Edward Frederick Bedford, C.B. (2 August, 1881 – 5 December, 1949) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Rear-Admiral Sir F. Bedford was born at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich. He gained twelve months' time on passing out of Britannia.

He qualified as an Interpreter in French.

Bedford was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 2 August, 1902.[1]

Bedford was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 2 August, 1910.

Bedford was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1914.

Bedford was appointed in command of the scout cruiser Forward on 11 May, 1918.[2]

Post-War

He was appointed in command of the battleship Iron Duke in May, 1919.[3]

Bedford was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1919.

Bedford was appointed in command of the battlecruiser Tiger on 31 December, 1929.[4]

Bedford was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 20 July, 1931.

Bedford was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 2 January, 1936.

Placed on Retired List 11 December, 1937.
