H.M.S. Firebrand was one of twelve Forester Class gunboats completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
Firebrand was commissioned at Devonport on 9 December, 1878.[3] Ready for sea at Devonport on 18 January, 1879,[4] she was slated to venture first to Sierra Leone to relieve the gun vessel Boxer.[5]
She next went to relieve Forester on the North America and West Indies Station.[6]
Commissioned at Devonport on 6 May, 1884.[7]
