H.M.S. C 16 was one of thirty-eight "C" class coastal submarines completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

On 14 July, 1909, C 17 collided with her. C 17 sustained slight damage and C 16 was largely unhurt. As part of the same scene, C 11 was rammed by S. S. Eddystone and lost with thirteen of her crew of sixteen.

On 16 April, 1917, Melampus collided with C 16, killing all on board despite efforts to escape from the sunken hulk.
