H.M.S. W 4 was one of four "W" class submarines built by Armstrong, Whitworth & Company and, like the "S" class boats, given to Italy in the summer of 1915.

Service

Paid off for the first time on 7 August, 1916[7] as she transferred into Italian service as W 4.[8]
