The first class protected cruiser H.M.S. Blake one of two Blake class cruisers completed in the early 1890s. She served as a depot ship in the Great War.
Service
One of the ship's boilers exploded off the Lizard on 24 June, 1896, resulting in the death of stoker George William Evill.[6]
Blake completed her conversion to a depot ship in August of 1907, and re-commissioned at Chatham on 6 August, 1908.[7]
She served the Second Destroyer Flotilla from at least November, 1911.[8]
In September, 1915, her services were divided when she took the Eleventh Destroyer Flotilla as a second flotilla under her wing.[9] In November, Twelfth Destroyer Flotilla was briefly added to her roster until Diligence was allocated to meet its needs.[10] In April, 1916, she left the Second Flotilla, as it had been reduced to a nominal strength, and she served until the end of the war with the Eleventh.
In March, 1919, she became depot ship to the new Fifth Destroyer Flotilla.[11]
