H.M.S. Patrol was a Sentinel class Scout Cruiser completed in 1905.
Service
In November, 1911, Patrol was a flotilla leader in the First Destroyer Flotilla.[8]
She re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 27 January, 1914.[9]
Patrol became the lead ship of the Ninth Destroyer Flotilla, a patrol flotilla serving in Home and Atlantic Waters, under the command of Captain (D) Alan Cameron Bruce.
She saw action on 16 December, 1914 during the Scarborough Raid. As she attempted to put to sea to confront the surprise attack, she was hit by two 8-in shells as she tried to get to sea, obliging Bruce to run her aground. In August, 1915 she moved to the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla, another patrol flotilla.
Bruce would command the ship until February, 1918 when Robert Arthur Hornell became Captain (D), Seventh Destroyer Flotilla.
In May 1920, Patrol was towed from Sheerness, having been sold into private hands.[10]
