Vice-Admiral George Trewby, C.M.G., D.S.O., Royal Navy, Retired (19 October, 1874 – 23 April, 1953) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Trewby was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1913.[1]
He was placed in command of the destroyer Crescent in July 1914.[2]
He was appointed Captain of the heavy cruiser Kent on 30 June, 1916.[3]
On 10 July, 1919 Trewby was appointed a Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George:
- For valuable services as Flag Captain and Chief of Staff to the Rear-Admiral Commanding, 10th Cruiser Squadron.
He served as captain of Ajax from March 1922 to August 1923.[4]
On 1 November, 1923 Trewby was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral, vice Barttelot. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 2 November.[5] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 12 June, 1928.[6]
Trewby died at the age of seventy-nine on St. George's Day, 23 April, 1953, at 94 Richmond Hill Court, Richmond. He was cremated at Mortlake Crematorium on 28 April.
