Lieutenant-Commander (retired) Wolstan Beaumont Charles Weld Forester (27 August, 1899 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy. His first name may have been "Wolston".

Life & Career

Forester listed his mother, the Honourable Mrs. Charles Forester as his guardian upon joining the Navy. She was a professor living in Gatwick. Forester passed out of the Training Establishment at the outbreak of war and was placed in the battleship Goliath. He survived her sinking by a Turkish destroyer on 13 May, 1915.[1]

Forester was appointed to the battleship Colossus on 26 August, 1915, and saw action in her at the Battle of Jutland. Captain Pound wrote that Forester was plagued by ill health, some of his time being due to shock following immersion when Goliath went under. He would be hospitalised at sporadic intervals throughout the war. Forester left Colossus on 10 September 1917 when he was appointed to a course in Torpedo Control.[2]

Forester was appointed to the patrol boat P12 from 19 September 1917 to 5 March, 1918. He next served in Scout from 3 June 1918 to 15 January, 1919.[3]

Forester was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1919.[4]

Forester was appointed in command of the destroyer Tower on 22 June, 1920.[5] However, the Navy List and his Service Record disagree on whether this appointment was merely for the Reserve Fleet Exercises. His Service Record indicates he was appointed to Whitley from 20 July, 1920.[6]

Forester was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 31 March, 1923.[7]

Forester was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1927.[8]
