Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. (retired) Walter Michael Knowles, R.D., R.N.R. (2 June, 1878 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.
Life & Career
Knowles was fluent in German, and spoke some French and Spanish.[1]
Knowles was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 17 February, 1908.[2]
Knowles was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 17 February, 1916. He would be cautioned to exercise more care following a collision between Violet and a tug, and then Court Martialed and dismissed the ship after stranding her.[3]
Demobilised on 20 September 1919, Knowles was placed on the Retired List on account of age on 2 June, 1923. A step in rank was not recommended.[4]
