p. 15

"The Third Naval Lord or Controller ..." Prior to 1904 the Third Naval Lord was technically the Additional Naval Lord and Controller of the Navy. After 1912 the Third Sea Lord ceased to be Controller. The office of Controller was merged with that of Third Sea Lord on 11 November, 1918.

"Naval Ordnance" Naval Ordnance and Torpedoes.

"... Director of Naval Construction, (DNC) often also styled Assistant Controller." Only White was Assistant Controller.

"normally an Engineering Rear-Admiral" Engineer Rear-Admiral, and only after 1903. Also an Engineer Vice-Admiral. Previously, they were Chief Inspectors of Machinery.

"George Geddes" as Controller. Sir Eric Geddes.

"With a Deputy Chief (not on the Board) assisting him." He had a Deputy First Sea Lord, a Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff and an Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff, all on the Board.
