Thirteenth Sloop Flotilla (Royal Navy)

The Thirteenth Sloop Flotilla was a formation of sloops of the Royal Navy.

History

The Thirteenth was one of six new flotillas to first appear in the Navy List in July, 1918, joining the long-established First Sloop Flotilla and Tenth Sloop Flotilla.

July, 1918

The formation is first given this designation this month, though many of its thirteen sloops were based in Egypt for some time before.[1]

August, 1918

Clio, Espiegle and Odin have left and Bryony has arrived, making eleven sloops.[2]

November, 1918

Some time between 1 August and 1 November, Gardenia has arrived and Veronica has left to join the Tenth Sloop Flotilla, maintaining a strength of eleven sloops. This roster would apply until some time in December, 1918.[3]

January, 1919

In December, Amaryllis, Gardenia, Magnolia, Mallow and Nigella have left and Acacia, Pentstemon and Wallflower have arrived, making the strength nine sloops.[4]

February, 1919

In January, Lily, left, making the strength eight sloops. Bryony is now designated as the flotilla's flagship.[5]

March, 1919

In February, Cornflower left, making the strength seven sloops. This roster would apply until some time in April.[6]

May, 1919

In April, Valerian and Verbena left, reducing the strength to five sloops. This roster would apply until some time in April.[7]

In May, Acacia left, reducing the strength to four sloops.[8]

July, 1919

The flotilla is not mentioned by name in the Navy List, though Wallflower and Bryony are still attached to the Egyptian Division, with Wallflower to pay off shortly.
