Volume of records from the Egyptian Campaign, Volume 49, covering the period 21 November 1882 to 23 February 1883, compiled by Admiral Frederick Beauchamp Paget Seymour, Commander-in-Chief in the Mediterranean. Including telegrams to and from the Admiralty between 11 May 1882 and 6 October 1882, some papers relating to the Palmer Search Expedition, and an index.

Typescript sheets providing a transcription from the diary of Admiral Frederick Beauchamp Paget Seymour during the Egyptian Campaign, 14 May 1882 to 10 November 1882, together with the diary entry recording his reception at Windsor Castle on 11 March 1883. There are also transcriptions of two letters he wrote to the Earl of Northbrook, First Lord of the Admiralty, one of which gives an account of the bombardment of Alexandria in July 1882.

Scrapbook containing memoranda, letters, certificates, drawings, charts, photographs, invitations, dinner menus, and newspaper cuttings from Seymour's career in the period 1872-1894. Much of the material relates to his appointment as Commander-in-Chief in the Mediterranean, and his flagship, the central battery ironclad HMS ALEXANDRA (1875).

Two watercolours show the Turkish forts Medjidich and Namazieh in the Dardanelles in September 1880. The photographs include carte-de-visite and cabinet portraits, and topographical views of Catarro and Gravosa on the Dalmatian coast. Others record damage to the forts at Alexandria following the bombardment in July 1882 and the presentation of the Victoria Cross to Gunner Israel Harding.

Leather bound volume containing logs and journals kept by Hugh Francis Paget Sinclair as a cadet and midshipman, 12 September 1888 to 14 June 1891. In this period he served on the battleships HMS BENBOW (1885), HMS CAMPERDOWN (1885) and HMS VICTORIA (1887) in the Mediterranean. The volume includes technical drawings and track charts.

Leather bound volume containing logs and journals kept by Hugh Francis Paget Sinclair as a midshipman, 14 June 1891 to 15 December 1892. During this period he served on the battleships HMS VICTORIA (1887) and HMS BENBOW (1885) in the Mediterranean, then briefly under the Director of Works at Portsmouth. Towards the end of 1891 he travelled to Bermuda, first taking a passage to Halifax on the storeship HMS TYNE (purchased 1878). He then served on the battleship HMS BELLEROPHON (1865), the composite screw corvette HMS PYLADES (1884) and the cruiser HMS BLAKE (1889) on the North America station. The volume includes technical drawings and track charts.

Private journal kept by Hugh Francis Paget Sinclair, 10 October 1890 to 13 February 1895. It covers part of his career in the Royal Navy, including appointments as a midshipman on the Mediterranean and North America stations, training at the Royal Naval College, then service as a sub-lieutenant on the cruiser HMS SPARTAN (1891) in China.

Scrapbook containing certificates, letters, dinner menus, theatre and concert programmes, invitations, order of service, photographs and newspaper cuttings from the career of Hugh Francis Paget Sinclair in the period 1914-1937.

There are items relating to Sinclair’s command of the battleship HMS RENOWN (1916) in the Grand Fleet, then appointments as Chief of Staff to Vice-Admiral William C. Pakenham on the battlecruiser HMS LION (1910), Director of Naval Intelligence and Rear-Admiral of Submarines. The loose items include a portrait photograph, a memorandum from staff of the Naval Intelligence Division congratulating Sinclair on his promotion to flag rank in 1920, and souvenirs from the passenger liner BERENGARIA (1913).

Scrapbook containing certificates, letters, dinner menus, theatre and concert programmes, invitations, order of service, photographs and newspaper cuttings from the career of Hugh Francis Paget Sinclair in the period 1936-1939. The items include a memorial pamphlet for Admiral Sir William W. Fisher and newspaper obituaries for Sinclair.

Album containing albumen prints, mainly showing British warships of the Mediterranean Squadron and topographical views of locations in Italy, France, Turkey and Greece. There are group portraits of officers and midshipmen on the battleships HMS CAMPERDOWN (1885) and HMS BELLEROPHON (1865). A group of photographs relate to the cable ship ELECTRA (1884), and the laying of the third Aden to Bombay telegraph cable in 1891.
