Sidney Thompson Stephens
Lieutenant Sidney Thompson Stephens, (14 July, 1874 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve and the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Entered Royal Navy service on 1 October, 1898 at the rank of Sub-Lieutenant.[1]
Stephens was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1899. This was later adjusted to 1 October, 1900 by a Court Martial.[2]
He was appointed to H.M.S. Resolution on 31 October, 1907 and was in command of the ship from 25 February, 1909. In April 1910, Captain Ewart noted that Stephens possessed very good physical qualities, but asserted that he did not recommend him for advancement. In February, 1911, Captain Borrett saw fit to stop Stephens's wine bill, noting that "v. little liquor has an exciting effect on him". This policy continued through the year, at least, and was noted to have greatly improved Stephens's performance.[3]
Stephens was retired at his own request on 14 July, 1914.[4]
