Robert Bellis
Captain (retired) Robert Bellis, (19 March, 1868 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve and the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Bellis entered the Royal Navy with the probationary rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1898 and confirmed in the rank on 2 July, 1900.[1]
In January 1912, while Bellis was serving as first officer in Spartiate, Cdr. Pratt evaluated him as "Not temperate. No tact, weak character. Poor physique." Captain Bridson halted[?] his wine bill and Rear-Admiral Moggridge required monthly reports on Bellis. Worse, Bellis was sidelined, sick with gonorrhea at Plymouth on 29 June, 1912.[2]
Bellis was placed on the retired List on 19 March 1913 with a step in rank to Commander.[3]
On 6 September, 1917, Bellis was judged fit for shore service only.[4]
Bellis reverted to the Retired List on 4 June, 1919 and, in recognition of his wartime service, Bellis was promoted to the rank of Captain, dated 11 November, 1918.[5]
