Ralph Adam Nicholson
Commander (retired) Ralph Adam Nicholson, O.B.E. (30 November, 1895 – 13 May, 1945) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of William L. Nicholson, Esq., farmer.[1]
Nicholson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1917. On 5 November 1917 he was appointed to Dolphin for a submarine course. In January 1918 he was appointed to Adamant for service in submarines. On 22 April, it was specified that he was to be in E 11. On 6 August, he was placed in E 33.[2]
Nicholson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 January, 1925. In 1927 while in command of L 18, he asked to revert to general service on account of "nerves".[3]
In 1935, he began work in a drafting capacity. As World War II approached, he was working with Naval Air Stations.[4]
World War II
Nicholson was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 30 November, 1940.[5]
He died of a coronary thrombosis.[6]
