N° 7 was a torpedo boat completed for the French Navy in 1876.

Construction

N° 7 was designed by mécanicien principal de 2e classe Juhel, along the lines of the March 1875 proposals of the Commission Permanente des Défenses Sous-Marines. She was intended for defensive work inside harbors or river estuaries. Her machinery was built by F C de la Méditerranée.[11]

Service

N° 7 was completed and began trials in 1876. Her original Belleville boiler consumed too much coal and was replaced with a similar but heavier one in July 1877. Her bow-mounted torpedo tube proved unservicable and was replaced with a spar torpedo around the same time.[12]

After reboilering, N° 7 remained out of water on a slip at Arsenal de Brest except for occasional trials. In June 1888 she was renamed Compagnon and became a tender to the hydrographic survey ship Chimère. Compagnon became an engineering school ship at the Ecole des mécaniciens de Brest in 1894. She lasted over a decade in this service and was finally discarded in 1909.[13][14]
