Maurice Lloyd Vernon
Commander (retired) Maurice Lloyd Vernon, O.B.E., D.S.C., R.N. (14 August, 1895 – ) served in the Royal Navy. Some Navy Lists spell his name as "Morris", but sporadically.
Life & Career
The son of medical practitioner Claude M. Vernon, Esq..[1]
Vernon emerged from the Training Establishment in mid-January, 1913 and was appointed to the armoured cruiser Warrior. He remained in the ship until 15 June, 1915. He next served in the sweeping sloop Daphne until 26 March 1916 when he was appointed to the sweeping sloop Godetia, where he remained until 30 October, 1916.[2]
Vernon was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1917 while appointed to the destroyer Sorceress. On 21 April, he was appointed to the destroyer Rowena. On 4 July 1918 he was sent to join the minesweeper Muskerry.[3]
Vernon was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 16 January, 1921.[4]
Vernon was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 January, 1925.[5]
Vernon was promoted to the rank of Commander on 14 August, 1935.[6]
World War II
A series of seemingly shore-based posts, first at Aden and later as Maintenance Commander, Colombo. He was diagnosed with a malarial-related condition at Royal Naval Hospital, Mombasa in May 1944 and later sent to Washington. He was released from service on 3 May, 1946.[7]
