Lieutenant-Commander James Ian Murray Ashby, O.B.E. (1 November, 1901 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
As with many men born c. 1899 or later, his Service Records at The National Archives do not reflect activity between 1931 and 1939 or so.
Life & Career
Ashby was in command of the gunboat Cricket when it was bombed along with a concentration of shipping on 12 December, 1937 at Hsiasan-Shan. He opened fire and prevented further loss, and was awarded his O.B.E. for this resolute action.[1]
