Hugh Seymour
Captain Hugh Seymour, D.S.O. (22 January, 1879 – 27 November, 1950) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Seymour gained an impressive eleven months' time on passing out of Britannia.
Seymour was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1901.[1]
Seymour was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 May, 1909.[2]
Seymour was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1915.[3]
In February through April of 1916, Seymour swept the Whiten Head minefield. He received a D.S.O. for sweeping in the period January through June of 1916.[4]
On 15 September 1917, the Admiralty thanked him for his service in command of a Gunboat Flotilla attached to the Grand Fleet. In 1918, S.N.O., Granton forwarded a strong recommendation that Seymour should receive a bar for his D.S.O. for his work in mine clearance. This was awarded in late 1918.
Post-War
Seymour was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1920.[5]
Seymour was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 14 July, 1922. There is no indication that he served during World War II.
Seymour died of lung cancer and general paralysis at age 71.[6]
