Commander R.N.R. (retired) Henry Norman Gilbert (3 May, 1881 – 27 March, 1958) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.
Life & Career
Gilbert was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 10 January, 1908.[1]
Gilbert was placed on the Retired List on 14 June, 1914. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 10 January, 1916. While we list him as being "in command" of Ark Royal, he may have simply been, for a period, the most senior officer listed under her in the Navy List.[2][3]
Gilbert was demobilised on 24 May 1919 and promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. in recognition of his wartime service, dated 11 November, 1918.[4]
