Henry Crosby Halahan
Commander Henry Crosby Halahan, D.S.O. (11 June, 1883 – 23 April, 1918) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Dulwich, Halahan listed his mother as his guardian upon joining the training ship Britannia in September, 1897. He passed out in February 1899 and was appointed to the light cruiser Aurora on the China Station, remaining in her until 17 April 1902, when he was assigned to join Conqueror for the Review.[1]
Halahan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 November, 1902. On 20 July, 1903 he was appointed to Thames for submarines.[2]
Halahan was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1913.[3]
Early in the war, he was at Pembroke Gunnery School. In December 1914, he was appointed to President for special service at Dunkirk.
Halahan was granted the temporary acting rank of Captain on 29 July, 1917.[4]
He was killed in H.M.S. Vindictive during the raid on Zeebrugge.
