Rear-Admiral Henry Bradford Maltby, (15 August, 1886 – 25 December, 1940) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Lieutenant G. R. Maltby was born in Winchester.

Maltby was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 August, 1908.[1]

Maltby was appointed to the battleship Erin from 5 August 1914 to 14 August 1917, seeing action at the Battle of Jutland. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 August, 1916. He later served in the destroyer Fearless for nine months, and then served in H.M.S. Lion as first officer from 3 May 1918 to 5 May, 1919.[2]

Maltby was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 August, 1920.[3]

Maltby was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1927.[4]

Maltby was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 10 January, 1939 and was placed on the Retired List the following day at his own request.[5]

World War II

Maltby was made a Commodore of Convoys, with a rank in the Royal Naval Reserve. He was presumed killed on Christmas Day, 1940 when in S. S. Jumna as part of convoy O.B. 260, sink with all hands by the German Template:DE-AdmiralHipper.
